Abstract:
This study examined the effect of industrial relations practices on the organizational performance of Emenite Limited, Enugu, Enugu State. Specifically, it assessed how collective bargaining influences organizational effectiveness and how conflict-resolution practices affect profitability. The research questions and hypotheses were aligned with these objectives. The study acknowledges that one major cause of persistent industrial actions in Nigeria is the lack of an effective salary-review policy that reflects changes in macroeconomic indicators such as inflation and the prices of goods and services. Using a population of 85 staff members, 79 completed questionnaires were analysed through a descriptive survey design and regression analysis using SPSS version 22.0. The findings revealed positive and significant effects of conflict-resolution practices on profitability, as well as effective strategies for managing industrial-relations conflicts within Emenite Limited. The study concluded that industrial relations in Nigeria do not strictly follow any single model—bipartite, voluntarist, or tripartite—but instead reflect characteristics of all three, without clearly achieving progressive or industry-supportive outcomes. It recommends that parties involved in industrial-relations disputes show greater sincerity during collective bargaining, and that government and management should refrain from arbitrarily repudiating agreements reached with employees to ensure harmonious and effective industrial relations.
